Sorry about the prolonged absence … let’s get this show on the road.  To celebrate the Sens’ fantastical stumble out of the gate I will attempt to summarize the first 20 games with 20 points.

It’s in modified chronological order.

20.  Sens start 1-0-1 after the Sweden trip against the defending Eastern Conference Champions and Sidney Crosby.

19.  The top two players to finish the 2007-08 campaign, Cody Bass and Brian Lee, didn’t make the team.  Or in Lee’s case - he didn’t make the team for very long.

18.   The big line gets off to a relatively fast start points wise through 8ish games.

17.  The big line gets broken up.

16.  The Sens lose roughly 8 of 12 games.

15.  Schubert is aparently despised by the new coach.  He’s been benched for about half the games and Hartsburg has no plans to re-insert him into the lineup.

14.  Gerber sucks.

13.  Big line broken up.

12.  Gerber gets injured.

11.  Sens lose a pile of games.

10.  Despite losses, Auld posts top 5 numbers for goalies in the NHL.

9.  Auld takes over #1 goalie position.

8.  Kuba leads all NHL d-man for assists!

7.  Big line tails off big time….likely because they’re no longer playing together.

6.  No secondary scoring….Fisher fails to pick up his first point until November 4th - game 12 on the year.  Further, 20 games in ad Vermette has 5 points, Fisher has 6.

5.  Fisher and Neil get injured.  Ruutu suspended.  Shannon called up and injured.  Zubov and Bass called up.

4.  Big line reunited.

3.  Sens have picked up four of 6 points in their past three games.  While the lost two games 1 and 2 in that stretch they only did so in a shootout.  Their play has been much improved.

2.  Zubov sent down.

1.  Ruutu beats Rangers.

No more PPV!

This season Sens fans are going to have a little bit more cash in their pockets.

The SUN reported this morning that the Senators will not be having any Pay-Per-View games this season.

This is mainly because of the larger number of games already confirmed to be broadcast by CBC, Sportsnet and TSN - 64.  Further CBC has yet to announce their regional schedule which will assuredly pick up another chunk of Saturday games AND RDS also tends to pick up some otherwise unbroadcast Sens games.

It’s not all good news though.  This means we can kiss pea soup interviews with Bryan Murray and tours of the Madison Square Garden urinals goodbye!

New Sens 3rd Jersey

Late this week the Ottawa Sun released a photo of what they believe the Senators’ new third jersey will look like:

It’s hard to be blown away by the design… Continue reading ‘New Sens 3rd Jersey’

Sens team & organization embarrass city

DISGRACE #1 - I don’t have much to say about the game. What a bust. How could a team with their season on the line come out so unfocused, undisciplined and effortless in the third period.

Big guns were useless. Neil took dumb penalties. It simply wasn’t pleasant.

DISGRACE #2 - Almost as distressing as the game was their playoff introduction where a fat guy dressed like a Spartan walked past the players and and rambled on (with the mike cutting out) about a Sens Army fighting. It was the most awkward thing I’ve ever seen. It was embarrassment to the players, the fans, the organization and the city. Here it is:

DISGRACE #3 - On top of that they kept having this guy’s lame clips chanting “defend” or “attack” throughout the game. It really killed the atmosphere during the game. Everyone, accept for (I guess) the audio/visual guys could see how lame this was. Everyone should be ashamed. I’m not sure why Murray even allowed the players to take part in the video.

DISGRACE #4 - THEN - for the first time in franchise history, the team didn’t come out to their theme song. The standard Sens opening with the beat followed by the Sens theme is epic. Here it is classic Sens intro:

I was shocked that it was cancelled in favour of the shit we saw. What a-hole let that happen? They should be shitcanned immediately.

DISGRACE #5 - BUT the organization didn’t stop their with their bad decision making. Rather than playoff towels OR red pom poms - Sens fans were treated to a single thunderstick each. Which (1) doesn’t come through on tv as looking like anything AND (2) you can’t make any noise with because they only gave each fan ONE!

DISGRACE #6 - THEN there’s the mural put up in front of the Penguins dressing room of the Senators eliminating the Penguins last season. As if the Pens needed any more motivation to get up for this game. Show a little class front office. And even if they decided to put it up before they knew they were playing the Penguins they could have easily painted over it.
