Playoffs?

The real question is: What does Ottawa need to do to prevent Washington from catching them?

NHL Standings March 31st

The biggest problem is that Washington holds the tie-breaker if they end up tied in points and wins because the southern capital won the season series.

If the Caps run the table and win their last three games (vs. Carolina, Tampa, Florida) they will finish with 94 points. The Senators are currently at 92pts and will need to pick three points in their last three games (vs. Montreal, Toronto, Boston) to ensure a spot regardless of Washington. If the Capitals lose one game then the Senators only need one point.

None of this speaks to where the Sens will end up (somewhere between 4th and 8th) but only to their ability to make the playoffs.

So, what happened?
